The simple answer is, yes you can! Lavender oil is a brilliant and very effective cleaning product for your home, which means it’s perfect for making into a natural cleaning solution.
So many of us now are becoming more aware of nasty chemicals and waste plastics, and are keen to try a plastic-free, natural alternative to home cleaning and scenting products.
Lavender essential oil can be mixed with simple ingredients in a reused or refillable glass spray bottle to help you clean worktops, sinks, cookers and even floors in the kitchen, and basins, taps, baths, shower screens and loos in the bathroom.
You can try a few drops of essential oil mixed in a spray bottle with white vinegar for a simple but effective cleaning spray – or you can add a few drops to an unscented washing up liquid for great smelling dishes.
Our recipe uses dried lavender infused in white vinegar for a natural alternative to chemicals and plastics. Here’s what you need:
200ml white vinegar
30g dried lavender
400ml water
Method: Pour the vinegar into a jar and add the lavender. Cover, and leave to infuse in a sunny place for 10 days. Strain the vinegar into a spray bottle and dilute with the water (you want two parts water for every one part vinegar).
Spray on windows, kitchen surfaces, tiles, floors and PVC. Take care with marble and granite as the vinegar can degrade them.
For a sweet-smelling room spray you can also combine lavender drops with water and a touch of vodka or methylated spirits. As an added bonus it also works as an insect repellent.
If you’re looking for extra eco bonus points, re-use an empty bottle for your spray – maybe even one of our pillow spray bottles, once you’re done with it. Although, don’t forget we offer pillow spray refills, and spare atomisers on the website too.
