Continuing our series in which we meet our favourite Gower businesses, allow us to introduce Carla Humphreys and Luke Borrelli who run Shepherds at Parkmill on Gower.
The couple took on Shepherds three years ago and they’ve done a fantastic job of continuing its triple role as a convenience store, a café and a popular destination for anyone seeking a delicious ice cream after a walk to Three Cliffs Bay.
To call Shepherds a convenience store doesn’t really do it justice. As well as all the usual essentials, you can buy specialist ingredients there, from risotto rice to vegan cheese.
Carla has also made it her mission to stock items from local growers and makers, with products ranging from our very own lavender soaps through to fruit and vegetables from Paviland Farm. These also appear in café dishes that include popular home-made soups and delicious home-baked cakes.
It’s always a pleasure delivering our lavender products to Shepherds and it’s clear that Carla and Luke have settled in beautifully.
“It’s been great because Shepherds is a focal point here and you get to meet lots of local people who I otherwise wouldn’t ever see,” says Carla. “It’s a very nice life for us – we’re really pleased we moved here.”
